Family of Ciara Durkin Hunts for Answers
The death of Ciara Durkin, Quincy resident and member of the National Guard in Afghanistan, is gaining widespread attention because of questions surrounding her death. After saying that Durkin died in combat, the Pentagon has said that she did not die in combat, but she was actually shot in the head while on a secure base.
Her family announced yesterday that Army investigators met with them for four hours on Wednesday to reassure them that the Army is trying to find out what happened.
According to her family, Durkin once said she saw "something she didn't like" while she was home on leave and that she asked her family to investigate if she died. Senator John Kerry is getting involved, and so are Irish government officials since Durkin was born in Ireland.
According to WBZ, Durkin's family is also wondering if the fact that Durkin was gay may have had anything to do with her death.
