Yikes! Fire at Park Street Station

Update: We spoke to a patient MBTA customer-service rep who said that she didn't know how long Park Street Station would be closed. She said that the decision to reopen it was entirely up to the fire department.

Update to the Update: A tipper going from downtown to Cambridge let us know that a red line train actually made it through, and the doors opened at Park Street, so the T appears to be functional in that direction.

A tipper on a red line train let us know that trains were stuck south of Park Street. A visit to WBZ, which tends to be quick on the draw when it comes to these things, revealed that a "small trash fire" broke out. No one was hurt, but stops were discontinued.

The MBTA's website announced the following alert: "Buses are running from Broadway to Harvard. Green Line service will not stop at Park Street Station." Prepare for a long ride home.

Not a good day for the MBTA with the "tipping over" of an Orange Line train earlier today. Saint Cecilia at Live Journal posts about the ordeal she went through trying to speak with 911 dispatchers while requesting crossing guards for hordes of T riders who had to walk from the Community College to Science Park stations.
