Neither Sophie Currier nor the National Board of Medical Examiners are going to back down. Even though Currier won an appeal to get extra time to take a medical exam so she could pump breast milk, the Board appealed the appeal.
In reaction to the appeal of the appeal, the Massachusetts appeals court "temporarily voided" the pro-breast-feeding ruling handed down by Judge Gary Katzmann.
They've done all the mulling they need to do, and they've decided that Currier, a Harvard Medical School student from Brookline, should have the extra time for her exam.
But the National Board of Medical Examiners now wants to appeal to the State Supreme Judicial Court. As we've said before, Bostonist doesn't know anything about breast-feeding and can't really say whether Currier needs the time or not, but this appeal-on-appeal-on-appeal thing is getting ridiculous when it's a discussion of a matter of minutes. They may wind up appealing each other until her child is old enough for medical school.
Currier needs to take this exam--and pass it--in order to begin her residency in clinical pathology at Mass General.
