--The BPD has announced that an "errant shot" hit Steven Odom, 13, in the head in front of his own home. Odom was killed in Dorchester on Thursday night.
Commish Davis says that police already have leads. But that's not going to help the family. Gangs and gunfights in this city are a huge problem, and it's incidents like these, where an innocent kid dies, that makes it seem as if the police and the community need to be doing more. We've heard a lot about foot patrols, but when's the last time we heard about brokering truces between gangs and cracking down on guns?
The Globe quoted Rev. Miniard Culpepper, who runs the Humboldt Youth Partnership for Empowerment: "There's a sense of outrage, and my prayers are that the community will rise up against senseless and outrageous killings. Enough is enough." Mayor Menino also used that phrase in a press conference.
--Yesterday wasn't the greatest day for Boston. First the Orange Line breaks down. Then a fire breaks out at Park Street. And then a generator exploded in the garage of the Sheraton Hotel in Back Bay. People near the explosion were evacuated, but not one got hurt.
--The couple whose vehicle went into Plymouth Harbor on September 26 has died. Sunil Gurung, 25, and Hishi Nagarkoti, 27, who had been in critical condition since they were pulled from the car, passed away "within minutes of each other" at Boston Medical Center.
All charges alleged until proven under law. This image of Steven Odom is from WHDH. Bostonist is using it instead of the standard body outline. It's appeared in several local outlets.
