Boston Blotter, Serious: Murder on New Whitney Street
--More on the man who was shot to death early Sunday morning on New Whitney Street. The Globe reports that he was 22-year-old Shawndel Mitchell.
Mitchell was a dancer and a Harry Potter fan. He attended the Boston Arts Academy and was taking courses to be an EMT. The Metro spoke with friends who called him a "superstar." He is Boston's 53rd homicide victim this year.
--Early this morning, two people died and four people went to the hospital in a car accident on Blue Hill Avenue. Only one car was involved. The BPD is saying that "speed may have been a factor." The car crashed into a tree and a house.
--Last night, a person was shot on 73 Greenwood Street in Dorchester. According to the BPD, one of the two shooters shouted, "Hey ho!" before firing. The unidentified victim was hit in the leg.
--A commenter provided an update about the Jackass Yankee Fans who allegedly beat up a Massachusetts resident who was in New York. It turns out that the men, who were from Pennsylvania, weren't Yankee fans at all. Said commenter said we wouldn't mention it because it didn't "fit our agenda." Uh, what agenda? While it no longer counts as sports, the incident definitely counts as Blotter. Carlos Ortez, the victim, wound up in intensive care as a result of the fight.
Anyway, a Yonkers police detective and the men who allegedly beat Carlos Ortez--Duane Somers, 32, of Huntingdon, PA, and Edward McConaughey, 42, of Orbisonia, PA--are saying they are not baseball fans and that Ortez started it in the parking lot. Somers said, "I just feel awful he got hurt as bad as he did." Well, whatever happened will all shake out in court.
All charges alleged until proven under law.
