Things to Do While Wet: Free Art; Free Booze

56534_RihannaUmbrella.jpgCelebrate the origins of the Native American genocide by going to see some European art!

Bostonist couldn't miss that irony. But the truth is, if you've got this rainy Columbus Day off anyway, you could do worse than to check out the Fenway Cultural District's "Opening Our Doors." All the museums in the area are free today, from the MFA to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. (The reaction of one Bostonian: "The Gardner's free?! That shit is never free.")

Some events not to miss:

-- MassArt's "¡Sensacional! Mexican Street Graphics." (While you are at MassArt for "¡Sensacional!," check out the Polish Pinhole Photography exhibit on the third floor.)

-- Boston Symphony's "Instrument Playground." Don't let the bassoon on the monkey bars with the tuba; they don't play well together.

-- The School of the Museum of Fine Arts's "America's Paradise and Isla del Encanto," which brings a Caribbean perspective to the event, or maybe not.

-- Musical performances by Afro-Brazilian ensemble BatukAxé and Haitian drumming inspired Zili Misik, happening simultaneously at Berklee College of Music and the Mary Baker Eddy Library, respectively. We didn't say that this thing was well organized.

-- Any umbrella vendor you might happen upon.

-- Free booze at Huntington Wine & Spirits. Free wine and liquor tastings begin at 4:00pm, giving working stiffs the chance to cut out early and drown their sorrows.
