Keith Cardoza and Julia Stoner, of Boston, got more intimate after six months of dating than most couples get in a lifetime. Cardoza and Stoner trusted each other enough to go for the gold in the North American Wife-Carrying Championship.

Cardoza and Stoner, who are not married in the States but who may be married in nations where wife-carrying is part of the ceremony, won last Saturday's championship by three-tenths of a second.

Cardoza carried Stoner "Estonian-style," in which the woman piggybacks on the man, only in reverse. Her arms wrap around his waist, and her legs wrap around his head. It sounds sexy, but it looks awkward, especially when Cardoza and Stoner have to leap over obstacles.

The pair won Stoner's weight in cash and her weight in beer. Both are students at Northeastern, which means that they may be entitled to graduate with honors.*
