Boston Blotter: It Wasn't the Yankees. It Was a Woman.
--Now we have a possible motive regarding the beat-down rained upon Massachusetts resident Carlos Ortez when he was leaving a New York bar. The cause wasn't a fight over the Red Sox or the Yankees--it may have been the other big reason for barroom brawls--a woman.
--Late-breaking news: This afternoon, one person got shot in the leg during an apparent drive-by in Roxbury. Police say witnesses saw a white car leaving the scene.
--The BPD rounded up a car thief who had plagued South Boston. Police arrested 25-year-old Christopher Chubbuck, of Dorchester, early yesterday evening after someone went to police and said, "The kid who broke into cars the other night is back."
--Speaking of cars, the BPD is looking for the following auto: "Vehicle: Red/Purple 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan, License Plate: MA REG# 81BT84." This vehicle belonged to Huynh Vu Thanh, 33, of Dorchester, who was killed on September 18.
--Stay alert in Brookline. Three armed robberies happened within three hours on Tuesday night. One victim had a knife held to his neck on Netherlands Road, another was pushed to the ground for her purse on Franklin Street, and the last victim faced down a gun at her own front door, also on Franklin Street. The Brookline Police Blog has more.
All charges alleged until proven under law. Apparently Ortez was hanging out in a road house. Image from Wikipedia.

It's always interesting when a cryptic, incomplete statement from a DEFENSE LAWYER gets transmogrified into fact. It's also "possible" Ortez was abducted by aliens to the planet Zorg, but don't bet on it. The more static that is created by people avoiding litigation, the less likely it is that justice will be done. Just because some shyster says it happened, does that mean it automatically gets printed without context?
