Did you hang on to the flash cards you used when studying for the SAT? Think you know your stuff when it comes to ten-cent words? Well, congratulations, brainiac, because you are in the intellectual center of Boston, where a whole bunch of people think they can take you on at tomorrow's Define-a-Thon.
Once again, the Define-a-Thon will be hosted by American Heritage Dictionary Senior Editor and theatrical man-about-town Steve Kleinedler.
Here's how the game is played from Houghton Mifflin: "The host of the game will give each contestant a definition, followed by several possible answers. The contestant must choose the correct one. As the competition progresses, the degree of difficulty increases until two contestants are left."
Bostonist was offered a chance to participate in the Define-a-Thon, and we'll give it a try just to see what we can remember from the SAT flash card days and to watch the real competitors sweat. But we imagine we'll spend a lot of time on the sidelines clapping for the person who will eventually win a copy of the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language.
