Follow-Up: A Chat With Jimmy Tingle About Theater Closing

101707-jimmy-tingle.gifJimmy Tingle called Bostonist yesterday to console us about the closing of Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway in Davis Square.

Tingle admitted in the conversation that the sheer work involved with running the theater was taking its toll, and he needed a break. He said, "I've done this, and I basically need to do something else." He stressed that his decision to close the Theater had nothing to do with the fact that the lease was up at the end of the month.

He now wants to focus on his own work. Although he doesn’t have venues lined up yet, he wants to take his new show "Jimmy Tingle for President" out on the road. The timing couldn't be better since he can join Rudy, Mitt, Hillary, Barack, and everyone else on the stump.

Since the theater is about to turn into a pumpkin, to use Cinderella-speak, now is the time to go if you've never been. Jim Morris will be performing on this weekend and the next in his "Presidential Follies of 2008." Morris has his own YouTube channel packed with his spot-on impressions of George Bush and all the crop of hopefuls for 2008. He also does a wicked good Al Gore, and it'll be fun to see what he does with Gore's spanking-new Nobel.

Tingle will also be presenting the latest version of "Jimmy Tingle for President" both weekends, and the John "Big Jay" Clark Memorial Show will be at 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 27.
