Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys @ Lizard Lounge

Official Site

Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys, last seen on Bostonist during the closing of Somerville's Sky Bar and the Great Lowell Cable Access Television Fiasco of 2007, will be bringing their experimental goth-rock to the Lizard Lounge.

Their website promises that they combine "music, shenanigans, toys, and voice to make an organic industrial texture-core Death-folk ride to hell and back in time for tea." And, if you listen to their moody, rainy-day songs, that sounds about right. They also bring a horror-meets-cabaret stage set with ornate costumes and, yes, a whole bunch of broken toys.

The two really throw themselves into the show. Based on what Bostonist has heard and seen (including when WBZ mistook them for something offensive on Lowell cable access), Walter and Edrie, the duo who make up the Broken Toys, seem to go into a trance as their songs unfold.

They'll be with the Hellblinki Sextet, which has gotta be the best band name ever. At least this week.

I feel bad for them, because it should have been me dealing with that situation, but I wouldn't let the PGM folks release our info to the press (we didn't give them permission to show the video). Oh well, free pub, I guess.

I don't blame you for not releasing it--it would have stirred things up even more.

I thought it was interesting that the person so offended by the naked people who were NOT Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys didn't just change the channel.

Well, HE wasn't offended, his girlfriend was, since he was watching a death metal video with two strippers getting naked, making out, and painting each other. What passes for art these days, eh? Of course, showing said video in the first place was probably not the best decision.

Thanks Sinistas! It was an interesting thing to see fox news say "girl on girl" sex while they showed my frilly bum and a cymbal clapping monkey - they had never been in my bedroom as far as I know! ;-)

But Really I feel MOST bad for Lowell because the city claims to favor artists, but really what they favor is safety in ignorance "um yeah honey I was just watching cable access - not wanking off"

Thanks Caroline for the write up - sox fans come to the show, the game is too nerve wracking! We're soothing! Sort of :-)
