Sports Redux: "We Don't Need No Stinkin' Towels"
Sox fans, the request has been made of you: dig out your reddest of red and wear it proud today. The Sox brass hit the television news airwaves on Friday and asked you to show the Red Sox that you're behind them - and show the Indians that in order to get to the World Series, Cleveland is going to have to get past our team AND our fans on our turf.
Fans have added detail to the request. The word is that those heading to the game (or, ahem, those planning on hanging out outside Fenway Park during the game) are being urged to bring red socks with them. Superstitions aside, we recommend washing 'em before you're bringing 'em.
So, just so we're all on the same page, here's the deal: Curt Schilling has a chance to bounce back from his 4 2/3 innings effort in Game 2, and he'll be going up against Fausto Carmona. Neither had a decision in the extra-innings game that kept fans up until 1:30 a.m. a week ago. Both are looking to deliver: in Curt's case, to force Game 7, in Carmona's, to wrap things up for the Indians.
Will the Sox keep baseball fans' hopes alive? Will they make little Boston Hill the happiest kid in Indiana? Is Theo Epstein going to be wasted and sleeping on a couch near Fenway tomorrow night (ala the 2004 ALCS)?
We'll know in a matter of hours.
-- Bruins fans, listen up: today's home game against the Rangers has been bumped up. That's right, early game. 4 p.m. Why? See above.
-- Did you buy or sell Pats tickets on StubHub between 2002 and January of this year? If so, do you remember all of the fine print about how your information would be kept confidential? Well, there's the law and then there is the New England Patriots organization. Apparently, Kraft and Company are above privacy law, because they have all of your contact info. Yep, that's right - those emails from "Belichick, Bill" you'd been receiving in your inbox might not be clever spam after all.
The official reason? Cutting down on illegal ticket resales. Because it's not like you should enjoy the games if you're not a season ticket holder but can pay an arm and a leg to see the team play. Obviously.
-- Last, but certainly not least, the Head of the Charles Regatta kicks off today! Here's your schedule for the day.
