MBTA commuters connecting through Airport, North and South Stations had a touching reunion this morning... with the sound of their own thoughts.
T-Radio has been suspended. And a month early at that.
Evidently, hearing a steady stream of lite rock, celebrity gossip and commercials through speakers with the fidelity of a Fisher Price record player while held captive on a subway platform turned out not to be as popular among Bostonians as was once thought.
The suspension of the service, which one observer had dubbed "Torture Radio," came after the T received more than 1,800 emails about the program, most of them negative.
One group of Bostonians will regain their livelihood as well as their sanity. Boston's buskers have been vocal opponents of the service since its inception.
The bad news? According to the Globe, the T is considering reviving T-Radio in another format, suggesting that embattled commuters and buskers may only be seeing the eye of the hurricane.

"I'm underground, in a tunnel, with trains passing through. But BAD RADIO??? I won't allow it!"
Sure, I get that. Bring on the higher fares.
Dashford, I'm a little confused. Which T station has a constant stream of trains passing through?
Nobody, including the T itself through its press releases, has suggested that T radio is somehow going to prevent a future fare hike. And the T has been very evasive about where the money from advertising is going. Is it going to fix the Orange line so trains stop flipping over? Or is it going to the media group who runs the station? Do you have those numbers, or are you just a funny panda?
