Do the past few Halloweens seem to go by, leaving nothing more than a little tummyache after eating too much candy corn? Well, Somerville author and Halloween expert Lesley Bannatyne is aims to leave a mark this Halloween by attempting to set a Guinness World Record.
Bannatyne hopes to round up enough people to set the record for a gathering of witches--more specifically, a gathering of witches reading poetry. The event coincides with a release party of Bannatyne's children's book Witches' Night Before Halloween.
In a clever marketing ploy and overall swell idea, Bannatyne is asking people to gather at Davis Square and read the poetry featured in her own book. But you don't have to buy the book in order to participate and set the record. In fact, this is the first time anyone's tried it, so the next time anyone asks you what you've done with your life, you can say you got in the Guinness!
The only rule? Show up in a witches' costume, and sign the official register. You'll get a certificate as proof of your participation.
