Boston Blotter: Not-So-Happy Birthday

crime_scene_tape.jpg--A gun battle erupted in Dorchester yesterday afternoon. A teenager was wounded, and a No. 23 bus got shot up. The teen, Walter West, was celebrating his 16th birthday. His gift was that his wounds are non-life-threatening, and no one on the bus got hurt. The BPD told the Herald that the gunfire was "likely related to a feud between gangs on Morse and Lucerne streets."

--The city has announced another new plan to cut down violence. The plan focuses on building relationships with the community instead of putting more police on the street. Maria Cramer at the Globe writes that a major facet of this plan involves teaching kids new ways to resolve beefs: "The city also plans to offer programs for parents that would focus on conflict-resolution so they can learn how to teach their children how to settle arguments and disagreements without resorting to violence."

--Apparently someone in the 'burbs thinks he has real problems. H2oTown has video of a man who gets into a fight with a crew hired to blow leaves off another person's lawn. The man who took the video gets his dander up and tells the crew that he's giving kids asthma. A shoving match results.

Settle down, fella. Based on the video, it looks like a crew was hired to take care of the leaves, and he probably would have had better luck shoving the neighbor who hired the crew instead of a man armed with a rake.

--Last off, Bostonist learns something new all the time. Regarding our post on street-racing in Roslindale, a tipper informed us that the Honda Civic deserves more respect and are "common, desirable street-racing cars." Not that we recommend racing your Honda Civic in Roslindale, but the more you know …

All charges alleged until proven under law.

Anyone know what town this is in? I know Newton has had a contentious debate regarding the use of leaf-blowers, but I feel that it was more geared towards the pollution and the noise they create than the fact that they allegedly give people asthma.
