Stop the Presses! Shocking News About Red Sox Fans!

Did you know? Red Sox fans get happy when the Red Sox win. And they get sad when the Red Sox lose. They also like to nibble on munchies during the game. The Globe apparently didn't think that their readers were aware of that fact, so they hired the MIT Media Lab for a study that showed up on Sunday's City & Region front page.

In the study, MIT's Media Lab observed Elena Tate, 26, of Cambridge, as she watched Game 1. The Red Sox fan let the team monitor her pulse and her "skin conductivity" to see how she was feeling at certain points during the game.

It's a cute human-interest piece to run on the day of Game 4, but we immediately sent a link to the original story to Fark when we noticed the helpful graph that came with the story. The graph added labels to show when Tate ingested shrimp and nachos, just in case readers couldn't tell she was eating shrimp and nachos from the captions.

As predicted, Tate got excited when the Red Sox scored, she got nervous when pitcher Eric Gagne took the mound (who wouldn't?), and her pulse also perked up when she heard about the infamous free taco promo. Alas, the Globe missed the real story. Writer Billy Baker briefly mentions that Tate took the Fung Wah bus from New York to Cambridge to see the game. Now we'd love to monitor someone's pulse while they are riding a Fung Wah bus!

Shocking news about the MIT Media Lab: It's a bunch of pretentious, overhyped clowns constantly tripping on acid.

They make awfully cute visualizations, though.
