This has been an incredibly eventful year for the youth in Boston's club scene, and it's about to experience another resurgence. In February, an event happened where three newly acquainted DJs got together to spin at Shine, the tucked-away haven in Kendall Square. Since then, many ties were formed, and bigger audiences, better collaborations, and newer projects (Black Magic, Basstown, and Nicky Digital posting Boston as a prime party spot on its website) came into fruition. While local DJ, promoter, writer, publicist and all around personality David Day cannot be held personally responsible for all of these achievements - it was, after all, a group effort - he played a huge part, and his absence rang loud and clear when he moved to the West coast in early September.

But still, Hearthrob, Basstown, and countless other projects moved on, and the people who want to make electronic music a prominent presence in Boston continue to work on putting this city on the map. A pleasant surprise, though, is that Day has been named the new Arts + Entertainment editor of the Weekly Dig. The Dig is one of the city's most popular and progressive weekly alternative newspapers. (Or it drives some people freaking crazy. You decide.--Ed. Note.) Bostonist thinks hiring Day was a prime choice on the publishers' part, as the departure of Michael Brodeur left behind very difficult shoes to fill. His successors would need to have a real hand in the various genres and facets of Boston's rich music scenes.

If you're interested in meeting a new editorial face of Boston's Weekly Dig, or simply having a well-spent night of drinking and dancing, head over to Make It New - the weekly event (which celebrates its third anniversary next Thursday) that happens at the Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge. David Day will be DJing alongside hosts Alan Manzi and Billy Kiely. Might be a surprise or two...you never know.
