Sox Continue Celebrations at the State House
Your 2007 World Champion Red Sox continued their celebratory tour with a visit to the State House yesterday. The event was hosted by Governor Patrick and numerous elected officials. Both (!) trophies were prominently displayed on the front lawn of the State House, the golden flags matching quite nicely with the gleam of the famous golden dome.
Governor Patrick kicked off the event, and while his oddly-accented proclamations made some chuckle (JAAYYsun VARRRiTECCKK), his enthusiasm was genuine. NESN's Tom Carron emceed the event and subsequent speakers included John Henry, Tom Werner, and Larry Lucchino. Red Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino gave the most rousing speech of the bunch, at one point proclaiming that "We showed everyone that we aren't no stinkin' Yankees!"
The high point of the ceremony came when catchers Doug Mirabelli and Jason Varitek took the microphone. Mirabelli joked that public speaking is much harder than catching Wake's knuckleball, while Varitek paid homage to the Boston fans. Tek repeated stated that they couldn't have won the series without the tremendous support from all the fans.
At the event it was also announced that a 'Twin Trophy Tour' will soon commence in an effort to bring the World Series Trophies to every town in the State. The Governor wasn't the only politician to join in the revelry, read Congressman Markey's Ode to the Red Sox
We got word that there were a few reporters from an un-named Boston tabloid, er, newspaper, that had been out during the Rolling Rally looking for State House employees to catch in act of playing hooky to the State. We assume therefore that said reporters must have just loved yesterday's event.
