Avoid Tagging and Towing With E-Mail Alerts
Street-cleaning day is dreadful on so many levels because it is all too easy to forget to move one's car. And then there are the annoying repetitive announcements that are boomed into homes: "You will be tagged and towed, you will be tagged and towed."
But Boston has announced that they will start a program that sends e-mail reminders to residents when they need to move their cars. Matt Viser of the Globe reports,
The city is launching a pilot program in the North End that would allow residents to join a list to receive e-mail, text message, and a cellphone call the night before the city plans to tow cars in their neighborhoods.
If you are in the North End, you can sign up at the Public Works website right now. If the pilot works, then maybe you won't have to hear the "tagged and towed" announcements, and people will actually remember to move their cars. Of course, it will be hard to find a place to move their cars to, but that's another story altogether.
As for Cambridge residents, the Public Works Department has posted a street-cleaning schedule, and you can have it mailed to you.
