Sports Redux: The Good, the Bad, and the Also Bad

tgtbtu.jpgA somewhat abbreviated Redux, since we're preparing for our live-blog of NFL Armageddon this afternoon. Let's start with the bad and end on a high note.

First, the Bruins. They went to Ottawa last night to play the Senators, who are 11-1 and running away with the Northeast Division. So now the Bruins know how it feels to play any of the other teams from Boston. It was close, and the B's even led at one point, but Ottawa converted on three power plays and came away with the 3-2 victory.

Also bad, BC. The Eagles were in position to claim another last-second win against Florida State and preserve their #2 ranking, ready to march up the field like they did in Virginia Tech last time. But no miracle last night, as Matt Ryan's pass was picked off by Geno Hayes and returned for a backbreaking FSU touchdown. There will be no college football championship in Chestnut Hill this year.

Now, for the good news: The Revolution advanced to the MLS Eastern Finals. After a 0-0 tie in Game One, it seemed pretty clear that whoever scored first would probably be moving on. So the Revs waited until a Red Bull was injured and New York was shorthanded, then Taylor Twellman seized the opportunity and scored in the 64th minute. Final score: 1-0. Now it's on to play Chicago Thursday.

Undefeated Celtics at 2:30, undefeated Patriots at 4:15. See you then!
