The Red Sox Magical Mystical Late-Nite Sofa Tour

110307-manny-ramirez.JPGNow that the Red Sox have won the World Series, how are they doing with the publicity grind? We'll evaluate each one's turn on late-nite television:

Manny Ramirez on Leno: Two versions of Manny Ramirez exist--the sulky one and the gleeful one who invites everyone over to his house for drinks. Gleeful Manny showed up on Leno. He chatted with Leno about cars and awkwardly hit fists with Steve Carrell. At first, it seemed like sulky Manny showed up because he wore his sunglasses out on stage, but, when he whipped off the sunglasses, he was a star.

110307-papi.JPGHe also talked up Boston's sudden sports dominance: "Boston now is one of the best cities ever. We won, BC is doing great, the Patriots are wining, and the Celtics have a great team out there." He was in such a good mood that he even shared some man-hugs with musical guests the Backstreet Boys. Blurry video from k1mri is on YouTube. We doubt it will be up for long.

David Ortiz on Conan O'Brien: Big Papi "bedazzled" the crowd (see Papelbon, Jonathan, after the jump) at Conan O'Brien with glimmering earrings, a shiny necklace, a glowing smile, and a sequined scorpion on the back of his blazer. A new fashion trend has been born. When it came to the interview, O'Brien had it easy. Ortiz is a naturally funny guy, particularly when describing the advice he gives to local sports reporters: "Go home, and get some ass." Do you want to imagine Dan Shaughnessy going home and getting some ass? Ay, Papi! Video from HashemElNoraAlila is on YouTube. Again, we don't think it will be up long.

Jonathan Papelbon on Letterman: Papelbon, the Energizer Bunny of the team and a sports agent's fantasy, enjoyed a brilliant turn on David Letterman. He also helped set up Ortiz' appearance by referring to Ortiz as a "Bedazzler" thanks to Ortiz' sparkly fashion sense. Extra Bases has the full transcript and video.

Doug Mirabelli on QVC: In a mind-boggling display, Doug Mirabelli and Papelbon somehow wound up on QVC shilling (couldn't resist the pun!) baseball memorabilia. How did that happen? Amy Derjue at Boston Magazine summed up Mirabelli's performance thusly: "Doug Mirabelli, on the other hand, looked like he would have preferred to have a root canal without Novocaine than appear on a home shopping channel."
