Cambridge and Somerville Elections
If you walk through Cambridge, you would think that everyone is running for office based on the number of signs on residential streets. Finally, the day has arrived to vote for the city council and the school committee. There are nine open seats on the council, eight incumbents are running again, and several newbies want their jobs. The Cambridge Chronicle has a well-done list of profiles for each candidate.
The big story of the election is the feud between the Cambridge Chronicle and Cambridge Mayor Ken Reeves. Reeves had earlier labeled the Chronicle's endorsement "meaningless." It just got weirder. David Harris posted an odd message from Reeves' spokesman at the Chronicle blog: "I want to thank you for not endorsing Ken. That’s it. Thank you.” The Cambridge Chronicle wrote that "Mayor Ken Reeves’ spokesman may have violated state election laws last week by making a campaign call on the city’s time." Catfight!
The Chronicle has already posted its list of endorsements, sans Reeves, for City Council and for School Committee. Henrietta Davis and Denise Simmons received their most glowing endorsements for incumbents who are running for re-election. If you are voting, keep in mind that the new members of the City Council will elect the mayor. Oh, and you might want to read the Chronicle's piece about the $8,700 city councilors spent on catering this year.
As for Somerville, the Somerville News offers its endorsements of the candidates for mayor, alderman, and school committee. Judging from what the News has to say about it, "this year's snoozefest" doesn't promise any shockers: "We don’t know whether to be miffed at the lack of choices or happy that voting will only take 45 seconds from the time the ballot is handed to us until we slide it into the machine."
This post does not imply an endorsement, but we do encourage you to go vote.

This my favorite blog of theirs.
Check out how they lose their cool at the end and ask to be called for answers.
