If Sia's voice sounds familiar on her forthcoming EP, "Some People Have Real Problems," you can thank or blame Zach Braff, depending on your point of view (Bostonist, for the record, thanks profusely). Slow down the bright and catchy pop beats of "Buttons" and you'll recognize the breathy voice that provided the vocals to Zero 7's "In the Waiting Line," one of the ridiculously good mix-tape tracks found in "Garden State" and on its soundtrack.
Sia has a knack for being able to tow the line between upbeat pop girl and sultry songstress, and we imagine that those within Paradise tonight will find it difficult to refrain from at least grooving to her material.
But what really gets Bostonist's attention with this upcoming performance is the opening act. Willoughby, the Los Angeles dreamy-folk outfit led by Gus Seyffert, manages to take Beach Boys sunshine and couple it with Elliott Smith-reminiscent darkness. The result is terribly pretty and wistful, music perfect for the autumn season in which Boston now finds itself.
