Developing: Chuck Turner Vs. Northeastern
Boston city councilors Stephen Murphy and John Connolly aren't the only ones who have to learn how to get along. City councilor Chuck Turner, he of the stunning goatee, will also need to learn how to get along with Northeastern University, or vice versa depending which side you're on.
Before the city council elections, Turner was angry with the school for not treating the neighborhood he represents with enough respect. He didn't mince words on the subject: "Northeastern is a predator. There's a history of Northeastern disrespecting the neighborhoods around it, and its abuse of the community has become more flagrant in past years. It is a typical example of an institution that has a lot of lip service, but focuses on what it's doing and what it wants regardless of the community."
Turner's problems with Northeastern aren't the same as the recently settled dispute between Boston University and the Brookline Police Department. Turner is worried that Northeastern's expansion will harm Roxbury residents, particularly those of St. Botolph Terrace Apartments, which was just purchased by the school. The Northeastern News has a long piece with all the details.
