Beauty and the Geek: Somerville LARPer Dave surprised everyone this week by revealing his inner dancer on the show's trip to Mexico. Fueled by a lump of salt and some booze from a botched tequila shot, he did a round-off back handspring. His partner, Jasmine, was so impressed that she gave him a kiss.
The look on Dave's face was priceless. Getting that kind of attention from a woman, no matter how platonic, made it seem as if he grew 10 feet tall. He was capable of doing anything, including salsa dancing. His salsa dancing moves steamed up the floor, and he won a challenge this week.
On the downside, Dave won a salsa challenge, and Tufts Nicole's partner Sam won the beauty challenge. So, MIT John and his partner, Hooters Heather, got sent home because they were clearly the strongest team. Northeastern Jen and her partner, William, who is growing brattier by the week, got to stay, even though William called Jen "fat" and said she was just like everyone else he knew in high school. Way to be an adult there, buddy.
Besides Dave's transformation, the best line on reality TV belonged to him this week. He said of swallowing too much salt during a tequila shot: "There's something happening in my mouth. I'm not sure if it's a party."
Image of Dave getting a little somethin' somethin' from BuddyTV. More about "The Contender," "America's Next Top Model," "Survivor: China," and "Kid Nation" after the jump!
The Contender: Bostonist doesn't usually follow this show--or boxing, even--but the show's season finale took place at TD Banknorth. Sakio Bika defeated Jaidon Codrington on Tuesday night. ESPN's description of the fight is a brutal read indicating that Codrington didn't go down easy. Third Decade got some shots of Contender semifinalists spending time with children at Body By Brandy 4 Kidz in Roxbury, along with great shots of the fight. The Boston Banner also ran a story about host Sugar Ray Leonard's and the boxers' trip around town.
America's Next Top Model: You probably already know what happened and how Bostonist feels about it. The Boston Babydolls aren't happy, either. However, Sarah gave us all the details about her time on the show.
Survivor: Denise didn't get voted out, but she might be in a pickle. This week, the standard tribal alliances were broken, and the merged tribe booted serial snorer and ogler Jean-Robert. Anyone is vulnerable, and James has the two immunity idols, so Denise needs to play smart. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the physical advantages of a James or a Frosti. She was picked last in a boat-bailing rewards challenge, and she was a little hurt: "I'm big, I'm fat, I'm always the last one picked. It's been like that my whole life, and here it is again."
Kid Nation: The kids are bored. And bored kids are trouble. So, the town council throws a feel-good talent show. It's a good week for Laurel, Town Council member and leader of the Green Team. Her team finally got upper class for the first time after a painful gum-chewing challenge, and Laurel revealed some unexpected singing skills at the city hall meeting. Is it just us, or is she the de facto president of the whole town?
