Boston Blotter: Murder in Roxbury

033107_body_outline.jpg--A young man was shot and killed yesterday afternoon in Roxbury. David Jones, 17, of Boston was shot several times on Bartlett Street. This is the 61st murder of the year.

The Herald reports that Jones may have been friends with a gang member who was murdered in February of this year. The police don't think it was random. His family told the Globe that he was "trying to turn his life around." WBZ noted that District B, where Jones was killed, has had 35 murders so far this year.

--Three juveniles tried to hold up a man at Dorchester Avenue and Faulkner Street last night. The juveniles used a cap gun, and the victim and the BPD tracked down the suspects. What makes this story unusual is the age of the robbers--a 13-year-old, a 14-year-old, and an 11-year-old.

--Erin Smith at the Cambridge Chronicle reports that a man ran over a meter maid who gave him a ticket. On November 8, the meter maid wrote a ticket for a car parked on Hancock and Mass Ave. She gave the driver the ticket and somehow wound up behind the car. The driver went in reverse and hit her in the leg. He took off, not realizing that the victim has his license number and pretty much all the info police need to find him.

All charges alleged until proven under law.
