Patriots quarterback Tom Brady visited his child with his ex-girlfriend, Bridget Moynahan, over the bye week. A visitation shouldn't be a huge deal in and of itself, but tabloids, celeb blogs, and the Track Girls fell all over themselves to report the fact that Tom Brady took the time to see his kid, "JET" Moynahan.
People Magazine monitored his activities: "With the New England Patriots idle, Brady hung out on both coasts, and found time for some fatherly activities in Los Angeles, where Moynahan lives. 'Ah, yep, yeah, changing diapers too,' he told Boston radio station WEEI." The Track Girls titled their story "Daddy Doodie?" That "Doodie" post generated 84 comments.
Brady changed a diaper. He's such a good man that he actually flew out to the West Coast to change his child's diaper. As much as we like the idea of Bridget Moynahan snickering in a corner while the QB fumbles with a poopy diaper, a diaper-changing shouldn't be a big deal. Changing a single diaper isn't going to impress anyone.
All dads--whether they be around all the time or occasionally--should be expected to freshen the baby up, too. The fact that it is big news for such a big male star to handle a diaper says way too much about the media's perspective of a father's parenting role.
OK! cover. Behind that distant look on Moynahan's face, she's dreaming of her ex changing messy diapers. Or, even better, Gisele Bundchen changing a messy diaper.

Caroline, great article. Slowly the Boston Media is warming up that Mr. TBrady is not the man everyone thought he was. I am glad the Track Gals put the snide remark/warning last week to the PR peeps. That's what sparked this recent outburst that "Oh boy, he did visit his son and even changed diapers!!" What a victory!!! Remember what Tiger Woods said about fatherhood? It's not just about the joy, but also experiencing the sleepless nights, colic cries, smelly diapers. Did Tom lose any sleep while spooning his Ho?
The media, not Tom Brady, made a big deal out of his changing diapers. Brady merely responded, not initiated, to a question posed to him on his weekly radio show. Bridget (Kat) has not only buried the hatchet due to her disappointment that Tom would not marry her, but she and Tom converse currently on a regular basis. Tom additionally sends monies to his son's Mom, but in keeping with both Tom and Bridget's practice of keeping their personal lives private, this is not reported in the blogs.
It is fair to state that fathers should support their children, even change diapers. It is another matter to jump to conclusions regarding parental roles, when both parents keep their private lives to themselves.
