Interdisciplinary Studies: The Rock 'N Roll Fashion Show--Updated
Rock 'N Roll Fashion Show
10 pm, Friday, November 16
Milky Way, Jamaica Plain
Directions | Tickets $10
Update: The Milky Way's permit was suspended due to enforcement of the nightclub sprinkler law. However, Carol Downs, one of the owners, said that they will be appealing the fire department's refusal to grant the Milky Way an extension at the sprinkler board. If they don't get the appeal, they'll go to Superior Court.
Regarding tonight's event, Downs recommends that people call the Milky Way at 617-524-3740 after 3:00 pm today to see if the event is still on.
Update to the Update: Just called the Milky Way (at 3:40). The person on the phone said all signs indicated the show would be on but to call after 5:00 pm to be sure.
Update to the third power: Called the Milky Way (5:21 p.m.) Is the fashion show still on? "Sure is!"
Update number OH NO: And it gets called off at the last minute. We'll let you know when it's rescheduled. As for tonight: there's always Bang Camaro.
We all have whims: dyeing our hair irrational colors, renting a Zipcar just to drive overnight to the nearest Waffle House, enrolling in library school. Some have higher-quality whims: Andy & Jen of local rock podcast Band In Boston have put together a Rock 'N Roll Fashion Show this Friday evening at the (apparently dry) Milky Way. How did such a thing come together? "On a whim," Jen tells us.
"I really wanted a way to highlight some of the fantastic, motivated, talented young people in this town." These include styling talents from the smartly-curated, locally-owned independent stores where she shops: Berk's Shoes, Hilken Mancini of Gumshoe Vintage, and History, which is like a chronologically-arranged library of 20th-century clothing (with a bonus mini-library of actual scholarly tomes in the back by the patient-boyfriend couch).
The live soundtrack will sound familiar to podcast subscribers (and delight everyone else, too): Viva Viva, Wonderful Spells, and Mittens. Get yourself caught up with Wonderful Spells' Flophouse Session, Viva Viva's Boston Bootleg, and numerous Band in Boston episodes graced with Mittens songs. (We asked Jen who she considered the best dressed band: "Marc Pinansky, lead singer of Township and manager of Berk's—best dressed rock star ever!")

is this still gonna happen given the sprinkler issue?
bandinboston's web site says: "I just talked to the Milky Way, and they tell me we are indeed doing this thing tonight! So be there!!!!" ...so be there.
