Sports Redux: Great Through Eight
The Celtics extended their undefeated streak on Friday night to eight games, but fans of the Bill Belichick School of Gloat-Free Victories can take heart in the fact that the team wants to take it to the next level.
"We are nowhere near where we want to be," is the quote, provided by Paul Pierce, that sums up Friday night's game at the Garden, which ended with a 92-91 Boston advantage over Miami. Yes, the Celts won. Yes, they kept the undefeated streak alive.
But given that Boston gave up a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter, and given that the Heat's Dwayne Wade had a perfectly good shot opportunity (win opportunity, really) that he happened to miss, the team is realizing that they received a bit of a gift. That result could have gone either way.
Kevin Garnett led the Celts with 26 points and 11 rebounds; Pierce fought through an injured back to add 12; Allen's shooting percentage was dismal (the guy was only 5 for 15), but still found a way to notch 19 points.
-- So everyone has been wondering what's going on with Patriots linebacker Adalius Thomas. Is he injured, with an ankle injury from Week 5 continuing to linger? Was his lack of wow factor against Indy a fluke? Strategic?
The Herald tries to piece it all together and asks Thomas about it. As he sat in the Pats locker room, ankle wrapped in tape, Thomas chimed in on injury speculation: "That’s for you to find out, and for me to know,”
The media is trying to find out, Adalius. And you can know whatever you want, but your play is certainly suggesting injury....
-- Harvard! Yale! Undefeated, facing off for the Ivy League title today! We'd recommend avoiding Harvard Square this evening, just to be safe.
