Cape Wind: Surprise for Cape Wind Opponents

052907_cape_wind.jpgDespite the efforts of those who don't want wind turbines in Nantucket Sound, the Cape Wind project keeps coming back like a pissed-off zombie. Opponents may try to kill it, but Cape Wind springs back to life with continued vigor.

Cape Wind opponents might want to bar the door this time because the AP has reported that contributions to the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound have dropped. The Alliance raised $2 million in 2006--a hefty sum, but it's still "less than half what the group raised in each of the prior 2 years."

Cape Wind followers know that those who don't want the turbines built, such as Senator Ted Kennedy and author David McCullough, have deep, deep pockets. These individuals can make up the cash. The decline in contributions is more of a sign that--ahem--the winds might be shifting in favor of the wind turbines.

Yeah, but what's most fun is that the former head of the org, Chuck Vinick, was paid $203,000 last year for his lobbying efforts.
But all he did was make the organization look like fools.
I really liked when he told the local radio station that Cape Wind would not decrease our dependence on foreign oil because, although the oil plant on the Cape Cod Canal will be used less, "it is my understanding that we do not use foreign oil in domestic oil plants."
These guys are too funny for words.
Anyway, Vinick's moved down to D.C. where people might not be able to separate fact from fiction, and the new head of the org is Wattley -- a coal industry guy.
Wonder how much he is being paid?
Maybe he'll suggest that Cape Cod have a new coal plant -- but that the new plant should be located in Fall River....
