Phew. Boston Isn't the Only Fraidy-Cat City Out There!
After the Mooninite Menace and Star Simpson's light-up sweatshirt, we were starting to think that the entire city of Boston was afraid of its own shadow.
But Toronto just made us feel better by having its own experience of homeland security gone awry in the face of art. Torontoist has an interview up with a gentleman who just scared the holy shit out of the city. And this is Canada, people, aka America's Hat. They're so laid-back and liberal nothing scares them ...
Until the people at the Royal Ontario Museum saw the gadget that student Thorarinn Ingi Jonsson made for his advanced video class. The art object looked like a bomb and had a note attached that read "This is not a bomb" (Star Simpson could have used one of those). The Canadians were not amused. Our cousins at Torontoist talked to Jonsson on the phone, and what he has to say could be useful to our local security forces.
Merci, Canada!
Glimpse of the Jonsson's object from Torontoist. See the man behind it here.

I think you've got your anatomy wrong. America is Canada's asshole. Yes, you wear the pants, but you often stink of something rotten and can be a real pain.

Well, Urethra, I guess it all depends on if you're looking up or looking down.

I'm sorry, but that's fucking *stupid*.
Have you ever seen a pipe bomb?
Here's a realistic mock up of one:

Compare that to the thing that asshat is holding in his hands.
Unlike the moominite or Star, things that were clearly not bombs, there is no reason on earth to assume that that supposed 'sculpture', which he probably based on pictures he found online, like that wikipedia pic, was not a real threat. You're being really dumb if you think you can lump that in the stupid here. This is an idiots "I made a 'sculpture' that looks just like a bomb, left it in a museum, and was surprised to find out it got treated like one!" and not akin to blinky aliens and stars.

I agree with thespian. This was a true hoax bomb, while the ones in Boston were only called hoax bombs to try to save the authorities some embarrassment.

That's a good point. It does look just like a bomb, but, in the ruckus during the Aqua Teen mess, the TV stations referred to the lite-brite Mooninite thingy as a hoax bomb throughout the live coverage. I think what freaked out the city was that they were all over the place. And the people who found it didn't know about Aqua Teen and didn't know what the hell it was.
Regarding the Star Simpson incident, I'll give ya that one.
