Sports Redux: ACC Ya Later
BC was hoping for results similar to, or better than, the last time they saw Virginia Tech. That was the game back in October when the Hokies outplayed the Eagles for about 90% of the game, until Matt Ryan led an improbable comeback to keep BC's ACC title (and, at the time, national title hopes) alive.
Well, so much for that. Virginia Tech outplayed BC for most of the game, including the last few minutes, yesterday. So they win the ACC championship and kick the Eagles out of the BCS picture, out of the Orange Bowl, and into a second-rate bowl game. While VT fans threw celebratory oranges (reminding us of Lou Holtz's comment years ago that he's glad they weren't going to the Gator Bowl), BC fans may have the Champs Sports Bowl, the ever-popular Chick-Fil-A Bowl, or the Poulan Weed-Eater Independence Bowl (which may not even exist anymore) to look forward to.
Nationally, #1 Missouri and #2 West Virginia did what every other #1 and #2 team did this year, namely lose. Who's going to play in the title game is anyone's guess. Probably Ohio State and LSU.
With only two losses this year, the Celtics' list of teams to take vengeance on is short. But they get their first chance today when the Cavaliers come to town. LeBron James, whose presence goes a big way in determining how close a game it might be, is nursing an injured finger and will probably play.
Speaking of "probable best players in the league", the Bruins ran into a fellow named Vincent Lecavalier last night in Tampa. His two goals in the first period were more than the B's could muster off the Lightning and Johan Holmqvist.

Every time Holtz starts talking about Frank Spaziani, you want to hand out rain gear....
