SchillingWatch: Schilling Steps Back Into Politics

Since Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling is sticking around Boston and it's campaign time, he's dipping his toe into the waters of politics again by endorsing Republican John McCain for president.

Having Schilling near New Hampshire must make McCain feel a little better. In New Hampshire, he can compete with Mike Huckabee, who is on the rise thanks to an endorsement from Chuck Norris. When it comes to tough guys with a political bent to the right, Schilling is almost as good as Norris--at least in New England. Unlike Norris' funny spot for Huckabee, Schilling aims for full-on sincerity:

He's also blogging about the experience. In a lengthy entry on 38 Pitches, Schilling explains in detail why McCain is his man. He then adds for the non-Republicans and non-McCain fans in his readership: "I guess what I am saying, or asking, is that if you are undecided about who to cast your vote for, don’t vote for someone a celebrity tells you to vote for, that’s lame, lazy and disrespectful of the rights you’ve been given. Take the time to listen and see these people."

The post sparked numerous attempts on behalf of fans to change his way of thinking. One commenter simply wrote: "Hi Curt, Ron Paul." Given the Ron Paul Internet Sensation, you knew that was coming, but don't expect Schilling to turn on McCain anytime soon.
