Trolleys Collide, Closing Green Line This Morning--With Update
Some Bostonists found out about this the hard way--by actually being on the green line and having our drivers announce "last stop Government Center"--but the Green Line is closed between Park Street and Kenmore Square this morning after two trolleys collided at Boylston. One trolley rear-ended a stopped trolley, and one car derailed, according to the Globe.
Not only were legions (including some Bostonists) made late for work, but the Globe reports nine people complained of neck and back pain, and the Common is swarming with ambulances. We hope nobody was severely hurt.
Green Line passengers are being bused between Kenmore Square and Park Street, so prepare for an extra-fun commute if your day involves the Green Line! No word yet on when the Green Line will re-open.
Update: MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo sent us details confirming the Globe report and told us the next steps in the investigation. Here it is:
Nine people, including two trolley operators, reported experiencing neck and back pain. They were transported to the hospital. A 2-car train that was stopped at the Boylston Station platform was struck from behind by another 2-car train. One of the four cars de-railed, but damage was minor. Following standard procedures, the operators are interviewed by accident investigators. The standard procedure also involves drug and alcohol screenings for any operators involved in accidents.

"nine people complained of neck and back pain".
Hey, it's the holidays. VISA bills arrive in 2 weeks. In NYC, they close the doors after accidents to keep people from jumping ONTO the bus. (One accident had 85 injury claims from a 65-seat bus, no standees).
Aging cynic, that is hilarious.
My favorite part was the bus driver asking for directions because she didn't know how to get to Kenmore. What a nightmare.
