Cambridge Has Banned the Leafblowers!

120707-leaf-blower.jpgAfter a brief flash of clarity in which City Councilor Marjorie Decker suggested things might be getting a bit out of hand, Cambridge has up and banned the leafblowers, for five months of the year, anyway.

Here's the details from the Cambridge Chronicle:

According to the ordinance, residents are permitted to use leaf blowers from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, from March 16 to June 14, and from Sept. 16 to Dec. 31. Commercial users — defined as any entity with five or more employees — are also permitted to use leaf blowers during those times, but must submit an operations plan to the City Manager’s office for approval beforehand.

While Bostonist by no means endorses tussling with the forces who want peace and quiet in Cambridge, we wonder what would happen if someone went outside on March 15 with a leafblower and just let it rip. Then again, a crazed mob might come after that person with rakes.

Well, maybe now the Cambridge City Council will have more time on their hands and can investigate the biggers stuff--such as the sexual harrassment that is allegedly running rampant at the Traffic and Parking Department.

They might as well ban snowblowers from April to November, too.
