Winter Wonderland, Not So Much
In snowy weather like this, complaints about icy roads or snowpiles are normal. But you know the weather is bad when the snow is so heavy that it collapses the roof of a Rite-Aid.
Last night, in Brighton at Market and Surrey, the roof of a Rite-Aid buckled under the weight of snow. According to WCVB, four employees and a customer escaped. Falling debris hit the customer in the head, but the injuries were minor.
Needless to say, the Rite-Aid is closed and may be demolished because the walls are buckling. Brighton Centered was on it right away and notes that WBZ got the location wrong. The Rite-Aid is at 399 Market, not 181 Brighton Avenue.
--Elsewhere in the state last night, a man died in a freak road accident in Palmer on the Mass Pike. After his car hit ice and spun out, Paul Oliver, 29, of Connecticut got out to check on things when he saw another car sliding toward him. Oliver turned, jumped over a railing, and fell on rocks below the highway.
--As if the snow and the ice weren't enough, the Globe adds: "Gusts of wind, 50 miles per hour, are expected to blow through the area until noon, dropping windchill temperatures below zero in some instances and rattling vehicles on the roadways."
