Herald Blames Menino for Blaming Everyone
Mayor Thomas Menino probably won't be happy with today's Boston Herald. The lead story paints a picture of Menino as a master player of the blame game.
The article seems to be the result of Menino's rage after the snowstorm mess. Jessica Van Sack writes that people noticed Menino didn't step up and admit that any of those problems were his fault. It's old-school "you smelt it, you dealt it" politics. The piece suggests that Menino's been complaining so much that a few peers are wondering if the smell is emanating from him.
One line in the piece describes just how complicated the blame game can get:
Several city councilors agreed that Menino likes to play the blame game but declined to comment, saying Menino would blame them for the bad press.
Sounds like a great day at the office. Van Sack also busted Menino for making like a member of the Bush Administration and claiming the media's hype of bad news fed the crime rate.
Although the piece is a provocative jab at Boston's so-called "mayor for life," it really doesn't say anything new. Politics and the Blame Game go together like peanut butter and jelly. If Menino--or any other official--isn't blaming someone for something that's going wrong, then the masses would likely think they're not good at politics in general.
