MittWatch: New England Papers Turn on Romney

122307-mitt-ann.JPGAs the primaries approach and now that they've given John McCain their endorsement for Republican candidate for president, the Herald has whipped off the gloves and is going after former Massachusetts governor and Republican presidential aspirant Mitt Romney. Dave Wedge ladles a heaping helping of sarcasm when describing the latest development in the Romney vs. Huckabee Catfight Extraordinaire:

In an amazing coincidence, Romney’s family tale of animal kindness [in which his kids rescued some birds]emerged just days after revelations that Huckabee’s son, David, was fired as a Boy Scout counselor in 1998 after he and a pal allegedly hung a stray dog.

We're with the Herald. An "amazing" coinky-dink indeed. But, whatever the Herald's perception, the Five Brothers have unimpeachable reputations. Who can blame Romney for working the one thing he's got going for him--a batch of well-behaved, extremely enthusiastic offspring? Huckabee's spawn is no prize.

Elsewhere, the New Hampshire Concord Monitor gave Romney an anti-endorsement including the zinger: "People can change, and intransigence is not necessarily a virtue. But Romney has yet to explain this particular set of turnarounds in a way that convinces voters they are based on anything other than his own ambition." They went so far to say that Romney "most surely must be stopped." Wave those flip-flops!

Yet again, we find it necessary to endorse conservative NBA player and former hero for the Utah Jazz, Karl Malone, as Mitt Romney's new celebrity best friend. Romney needs to attack Huckabee from a new angle--and Malone would be perfect for the job. Attention, Romney advisors, there's not much time to waste! Put Malone on speed dial!
