Lumps of Coal for the NFL Network!

122607-nfl-network.JPGEver get the feeling that life is turning into one long "Family Guy" episode? Particularly the episode in which the FBI shoots up Peter's VCR because he tries to tape "Monday Night Football"? The New England Patriots will finish up their regular season against the New York Giants Saturday, December 29, at 8:00 pm. Chances are good that they will win and enjoy a perfect record. But not everyone will be able to see it.

The game will be on the NFL Network, and a non-satellite station in the area is able to broadcast it, too. That station is WCVB, and most of our readers will be able to see it. However, according to WCVB, "As part of the agreement with the NFL Network, WCVB will broadcast the game only to its Boston/Manchester market as demarcated by the Nielsen Station Index."

That leaves out Providence, Albany, and anyone else in New England who doesn't get WCVB or the NFL Network. It's not as if missing a football game is the end of the world, but, out of all football games, the Patriots vs. Giants game is huge.

Senator John Kerry, who seems to have cornered the market in complaints against sports empires, is asking the NFL commissioner Roger Godell to intervene. Doesn't the senator know that the fans only get in the way of profits?
