Reel Hub: Kids Movies Eat Our Souls

123107-alvin.jpgNicolas Cage mopped up the competition this weekend with the National Treasure sequel, which looked a lot like a remake of the first one. It's basically expensive kids' movie stuff. However, a friend of ours who paid to see it pointed out that those who like the ladies will see a lot of Diane Kruger in skimpy, damp clothes.

Julia Roberts is probably wishing she could beat a chipmunk with her Oscar right about now. Alvin and the Chipmunks came in second, while the highly touted Charlie Wilson's War came in fourth. And what happened with Walk Hard? It vanished completely.

Ty Burr and Wesley Morris at the Globe released their end-of-year best-of lists for movies. There weren't many surprises, other than the fact that Morris revealed someone e-mailed him to say he could "eat his codpiece" when it came to the movie 300. (Settle down, 300 fanboys. Geez.)

Burr and Morris agreed on five flicks--No Country for Old Men being one of them, of course. The other four others were Ratatouille, There Will Be Blood, No End in Sight, No Country for Old Men, and Zodiac.

And don't forget the New Year's Day Marx Brothers Marathon at the Brattle Theatre!

These chipmunks, they taunt us. Poster from IMDB.

Methinks you have been into the New Year's punch a bit early this year.

Ugh. That was stupid. I fixed it.

Actually, it was margaritas.
