Sports Redux: All Is Quiet on New Year's Day

nyd2008.jpgThe Red Sox won their last seven games. The Celtics have a six-game winning streak. The Patriots haven't lost in - well, we can barely remember. Even the Bruins stopped Atlanta yesterday. So every local team finished 2007 on an up note (yes, Revs, we know, and we're sorry).

The B's were headed for another stinkeroo for a while, but they finally found their offense, and pelted the surprised Thrashers. Dennis Wideman and P.J. Axelsson scored dug the B's out of their 2-0 hole, then scores from Glen Metropolit, Mark Stuart and n00b Matt Lashoff finished off the shocking 5-2 outburst. Which is great, but it's not really as cool as the fact that Buffalo and Pittsburgh are playing outside today in the Bills' stadium. We're a little jealous.

The Celtics have a day to recover from Pacific Time before hosting the Rockets tomorrow. There are a whole bunch of bowl games today, of course, but who cares, unless you're a believer in justice and think that Hawaii should be #1 because they're the only undefeated team left in this screwy season. They're playing Georgia.

If you're nursing a hangover or otherwise weak of stomach this morning, do yourself a favor and skip Shaughnessy's "wacky" 2008 Predictions column. It might be time to upgrade the program that writes Dan's "wacky" columns.

Someone should tell Dan that anti-BC schadenfreude by HC alums is SO 1970's....

Shaughnessy can be hilarious when he wants to be. That was a great column.

If BC could win a big game when they have the chance, Dan wouldn't make jokes about them barely winning a meaningless bowl game.

BC hasn't won a game that mattered since...since...since, ummm, well, since You-Know-Who was there. Okay, they did beat Notre Dame. But, other than that, zip.
