Update: Deval Patrick can rest easy. Obama took 38% of the Iowa caucus vote.
For some reason, Bostonist couldn't get Huey Lewis' "If This Is It … Please Let Me Know …" out of their head while watching the Iowa caucus returns on CNN. So many middle-tier candidates will get their rejections over with tonight.
CNN and Fox News projected early that Mike Huckabee won the Iowa caucuses with a come-from-behind victory that had little going for it except for Chuck Norris. Former Massachusetts governor and political aspirant Mitt Romney came in second--a position he said he would still be happy with.
Expect Romney's rumble with Huckabee to come to a full boil. Ed Rollins, the chair of the Huckabee campaign, said that he would like to bash Romney's teeth in. While Bostonist has never raved about Romney, at least he doesn't go around looking for bar fights. Romney fought back with humor and told reporters, "I saw just the other day the chairman of Governor's Huckabee's campaign said he'd like to knock my teeth out. My only comment on that is -- don't touch the hair."
While Romney showed a remarkable amount of class while dealing with bloodthirsty Huckabee advisors, he couldn't avoid blundering double entendres, such as stopping by the Kum & Go gas station. Bostonist can't talk about this one without blushing--just read about it at Wonkette.
Before the New Hampshire primaries on the 8th, Romney must fight fire with fire. Take Bostonist's advice: Call Karl Malone.
Meanwhile, current Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick has been keeping the New England home fires burning for his chosen candidate, Barack Obama. Boston Daily reports that Patrick is at Uno's in Harvard Square watching the returns.
We'll be updating on the Democrats later and reporting the fallout.
