Sports Redux: In Bill We Trust

Maybe some voters in Iowa had a tough decision to make; not so the AP NFL Coach of the Year voters, who swept Bill Belichick into the award with 29 out of 50 possible first-place votes. The other 21, we're sure, were dismayed by Spygate (why else vote against a guy whose team didn't lose?), figuring that any coach who had footage of 20 minutes of Jetball had an unfair advantage. Bill, we're sure, took the award, nodded grimly, and went back to work.

But he did tell Dan Shaughnessy he plans to hit a couple of sports bars this weekend to watch the wild-card games that will determine the Pats' next opponent. So if you're a rumpled man thinking of wearing your gray hoodie out tomorrow, be prepared to be accosted by fans. Fair warning.

Tim Thomas seems to have recovered from his injury. In his best game since he's been back, he shut out the Capitals, getting a goal from Marc Savard and a 5-on-3 clincher from Zdeno Chara for the 2-0 win. It's amazing to think that even though the Bruins flopped their way through late December, they're still in position to make the playoffs. They have Jersey coming in tomorrow night.

If you still care about the steroid mess in baseball, you might want to check out 60 Minutes on Sunday. Roger Clemens will supposedly tell the nation that he had injections of painkillers, not performance enhancers, and then Brian McNamee, Roger's personal trainer and alleged injector, will sue Roger for calling him a liar on national TV. It's a real shame the TV writers are on strike; this has a "ripped from the headlines" Law & Order written all over it. [make Law & Order noise here]
