Happening Tonight: Elvis, Primaries, Zinn
Birthdays
The King's birthday is today! All hail Elvis! Dick's Last Resort, where they tend to celebrate everything Elvis, will be hosting a birthday bash including an Elvis Impersonator contest and a jelly-donut eating contest. Faneuil Hall. 6:00 pm.
And keep looking for a post on what to eat tonight in honor of the king …
Politics
If you see some lost-looking drunk people in suits, it's either campaign workers or reporters who have gotten lost in New Hampshire and found themselves a little further South. It's the day of the New Hampshire primaries, where some candidates find their wings, and other candidates come crashing to earth.
Books
Pulitzer winner Geraldine Brooks makes reading adventurous with People of the Book, about the Sarajevo Haggadah. Coolidge Corner Theatre (via Brookline Booksmith), 6:00 pm, $5.
Performance
Actors will gather to read from Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States. The performance will be filmed for a documentary. Today and tomorrow, Cutler Majestic Theatre, free. The Cutler Majestic says all tapings are full, but this is the kind of thing you might want to hang out for in case people don't show up and you're in the area.
The segments that will be taped today include "Class" at 2:00 pm and "Women" at 7:00 pm. Readers include Howard Zinn, Martin Espada, Christina Kirk, Danny Glover, Darryl McDaniels (DMC), David Strathairn, Harris Yullin, Jasmine Guy, John Legend, Josh Brolin, Kathleen Chalfant, Kerry Washington, Marisa Tomei, Michael Ealy, Michael O'Malley, Q'orianka Kilcher, Reg E. Cathey, Staceyann Chin, and Viggo Mortensen. (list from Zinn's website)
