Sports Redux: "Fan" Is, After All, Short For Fanatic

Victor Thompson of New Hampshire is a bigger Pats fan than you are. Sure, he's never actually been to a game in Foxboro, but he'd like to. But that doesn't matter. Maybe you watch all the games on TV, maybe you own a Wes Welker replica jersey, maybe you've even trekked down to Gillette (or even Schaeffer) Stadium, but you haven't done what Victor's doing: getting a Tom Brady helmet tattooed on his head.

The idea came to him in prison (who says there's no such thing as rehabilitation?) and he already has the logo on one side. He's going to get the other side done soon, as well as a number 12 on the back, and (if they go all the way) a Lombardi trophy replica on top. He's got no plans to add a facemask to the ensemble, but he's got time to change his mind. We imagine he'll lead a cleaner life from now on, what with witnesses being much more able to identify him now.

In other Patriot "news", ESPN has dug up some quotes from Jaguars defender Paul Spicer from back in September saying that the Pats should have been disqualified from the playoffs because Bill Belichick is a bad man. He's not backing off the comments now, and nobody really cares, but just in case Coach Bill needs a little extra motivation for the troops, there it is.

Not much to report on from yesterday, except that Preston North End is trying to pry Taylor Twellman away from the Revolution. The decision is up to MLS, who said no, but Preston, possibly taking advantage of a strong pound, might raise the offer. Which could be bad news for the Revs, since Twellman is their best scorer and provided us with the only soccer highlight to pierce our myopic Sox/Pats/C's giddiness of 2007.

Thanks to Caroline Roberts for spotting Helmetguy!

But will it be the green-dot helmet?
