Boston Blotter: BPD Officer Arrested for Holdup

082007_BostonPD.jpg--A BPD officer allegedly held up the Best of Boston gas station in Roslindale. You read that right. A BPD officer held up a gas station yesterday afternoon.

The officer, 44-year-old Michael T. Jones, wasn't in uniform, nor was he driving his cruiser, but he used his police gun in the robbery. Police Commish Ed Davis, who has dealt with headache after headache in this job, called it "reprehensible," and that's an understatement. Jones has been on the force for 19 years. He had been on sick leave between 2004 and 2006.

It makes you think about what he might already have done without getting caught. Of course, all charges alleged. [Boston Herald, Boston Globe, BPD News, Universal Hub, which goes to that station]

--Several stabbings happened last night. Two men were stabbed early this morning on Allston Street and received non-life-threatening injuries. Elsewhere, three people were stabbed on Linden Street. Very scary. [BPD News]

--Eliezer Falcon, the man accused of setting a woman on fire at a party, was found not guilty of that crime yesterday in Suffolk Superior Court. However, he was found guilty of witness intimidation. At the moment, he is being held without bail. [DA's Office]

All charges alleged until proven under law.

I'm not a big fan of the Boston cops but I will be surprised if this isn't a case of an on-duty injury, with resulting pain-killer dependency. Not an excuse but perhaps an explanation.
