Commuting Fun in the Snow
Update to the Update: Green C is back to normal. (12:30 pm)
Update: Just received a T alert about a problem on the Green C Line: "Subway Green "C" Line - is being diverted due to weather related problem - tree fallen on overhead at Fairbanks/Beacon street. A Shuttle bus will run in both directions between Coolidge Corner and Cleveland Circle."
Drivers are already spinning out on the roads this morning, and pedestrians are walking in the middle of the street. One can only imagine what joys will emerge when people try to park tonight.
Regarding delays, Bostonist hopes that you were lucky enough to stay at home. The roads are a slushy mess. In a funny local-news moment, Fox 25 didn't send up its helicopter and instead put a camera in a car (dubbed "Road Fox") to show just how bad Mass Ave looked.
The MBTA isn't sending out any T alerts except for the Mattapan line, and that's nothing new. That line is always delayed, only this time a tree fell on the tracks. Many flights in and out of Logan have been cancelled, and you can check on those with the airport's online flight board.
A big problem from all this is the possibility of falling trees, which may cut off electricity. WBZ has reports of trees down in Hingham, Dedham, Mattapan, and Allston. (If Bostonist suddenly goes quiet today, you know why.)
On the bright side, at least the snow is covering up all the trash that appeared on the street when the weather was warm. Platinum Elite has some pictures of trash in South Boston that is now, mercifully, obscured by the white stuff.
Do you have any images of beautiful snow, nasty snow tracked up by cars, commuter issues, or silly space-savers? Upload them to Flickr and tag them with "Bostonist" so we see them in the Flickr stream.
