Horrors! Plague of Hookers in the Suburbs!

011508-avenging-angel.jpgA story about hookers would usually be part of the Boston Blotter, but the sudden burst of coverage in the Suburban Hooker Plague deserves its own post.

Bostonist is underwhelmed by the Suburban Hooker Plague because prostitution happens all the time in the city, and prostitution-related incidents are so common that they rarely rank on the Blotter. That is, unless the BPD's ongoing "Operation Squeeze" nets a lot of people or particularly old or young people. And the thought of an illegal massage parlor in Wellesley is amusing.

The Globe just can't resist the prospect of a Suburban Hooker Plague engendered by Craigslist. Eric Moskowitz follows Woburn police as the police bust unlucky johns, including one poor schlep whose car has a "window sticker from a prestigious private school." (What? Ivy League and private-school types use hookers? Say it ain't so!)

Let's not give Moskowitz a hard time because his piece serves up some juicy details, including a funny debate between a john and a Woburn officer over what is and isn't sex. His article is merely part of a trend that likely started with the Wellesley massage parlor, and Fox 25 was there first. And listen to the words of Adam at Universal Hub--"You might want to avoid Asian ladies offering massages on Craigslist for a while." The police--and the press--are watching.
