Note: A few NSFW links are in this post. All of them are craigslist-related. No pictures, but words.
Bostonist has noticed a Herald trend. Whenever a major sports event takes place in the city, someone at the Herald scours the craigslist romance posts for sports-related ads. Last time, during the World Series, the Herald found a few posts indicating that Red Sox victories boosted the sex drive.
This time, the Herald claims to find something new--"frustrated fraus," or "Patriots widows," who feel that Their Man is too absorbed in the game.
Laurel Sweet lists some tawdry online posts as proof: "My man is at (the) Patriots game and I am bored. I dont(sic) care, I am sorry. The (expletive) was going to take me out tonight." In her rage, the woman searched for revenge sex. And a few men offered to provide services during the game. However, those offers of service transcended gender lines, showing that not all men are going to be riveted by the game, either.
Bostonist immediately went to Craigslist to see what was going on and if a flood of discontented housewives (the Herald piece assumes these women are housewives) had in fact invaded craigslist. The answer? Not really. The juicy post looking for revenge sex is there, but the "frustrated fraus" are--thankfully--few and far between. Not to completely destroy the Herald's craigslist theory, but they didn't mention that a few women were looking for dates during the game--and they actually wanted to watch the game. Just a little newsflash for the Herald--it is possible for women to like football, after all.
Of course, Laurel Sweet and the Herald staff may have known this the entire time. They just couldn't resist running the post because of the best picture ever to appear online. Bostonist took a screengrab of the image in which a woman snuggles with a man, yet Pats logos appear on their sheets. Does the Pats logo represent his dreams? Or her dreams? Or, is the Pats logo a peeping tom? Whatever--Bostonist understands that the Herald simply had to run that crazy picture.
