Tonight, The Axe in the Attic opens the four-day Human Rights Watch International Film Fest at the MFA. This film follows two New Englanders on a post-Katrina road trip to New Orleans, depicting their interactions with evacuees and confronting difficult realizations about the many shortcomings of our culture and government. Directors Lucia Small and Edward Pincus told the Globe that their film is "the story of people uprooted and displaced - the Diaspora of Hurricane Katrina," and we think this continuing saga still deserves to be heard. The directors will be in attendance for a discussion after the film, so don't miss the opportunity to learn more about an event that continues to loom as a major domestic tragedy.
Tomorrow, the HRW film fest features Strange Culture (at 6:20 p.m.), an exploration of science and art flying in the face of governmental controls, and The Devil Came on Horseback (at 8:00 p.m.), a portrait of a Marine's progress from soldier to activist.
